Additional Information

  • Activity Description & Prerequisites

    Activity Description
While adequate fitness for hiking is needed, this trip is suitable for those new to the activity. Expect to be hiking up to 4 hours per day with generous breaks. The trip will include one-and-a-half days of hiking. There are a variety of hiking trails to explore, and your guides will determine which routes are most appropriate depending on weather, group interest, or other conditions.

    Prerequisites
    • None
  • Additional Trip Details

Below you’ll find more information about this trip and what you’ll need to know in order to prepare for your adventure.

    Destination/Travel Time
The trip kicks off at the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) Highland Center in Crawford Notch, New Hampshire. Once at the Highland Center, the furthest travel required to a hiking trailhead will be approximately 10 minutes away, with many trails leaving directly from the Center’s grounds.

    Accommodations
Lodging for the duration of the trip will be at the Highland Center lodge and will be in private rooms, each with their own private bath (including shower, toilet and sink). Each room will have one queen-size bed and electrical outlets for charging devices, etc.

Located in the same lodge as the rooms, guests will have access to the following amenities: a large dining area where meals are served, communal gathering spaces, a small retail space, and the L.L.Bean gear room.

    Connectivity
Cell phone service coverage can be limited-to-unavailable in the Crawford Notch area. There is free WiFi at the Highland Center.

    Clothing Considerations
Dressing in layers is the key to staying comfortable outdoors. Multiple layers allow flexibility to respond to your activity level and changing weather conditions.

Please avoid bringing all-cotton clothing. When wet, cotton rapidly robs the heat from your body and takes a long time to dry. Synthetic fabrics are best because they don’t absorb water, and they also dry quickly.

For an outer layer, we recommend waterproof/breathable outer shell. This gear will protect you from the wind and rain and help keep you dry.

    Luggage
A medium-size duffle bag should be appropriate to pack the personal items you will need for the trip, plus a day pack to carry a water bottle, extra layer, hat, camera, sunglasses, etc. while hiking. You are welcome to pack as much as you need to be comfortable, because it is a short walk from where you park your car to the Highland Center lodge.

If participants consume alcohol to excess in the evening and behave in ways that negatively impact their own safety, that of the group or the natural environment around them, our guides will intervene. We hope that we will never have to remove an offending guest from the remainder of a trip to ensure the group’s safety, but we will do so if necessary.

If L.L.Bean cancels your event, you will receive a full refund for the cost of your reservation. All refunds will be in the form of the original transaction. L.L.Bean shall not be responsible or liable for other expenses incurred by the participant as a result of such a cancellation.
