One-Night Maine Canoe and Kayak Trip

Freeport, Maine

Over two the course of two days, you will enjoy a pair of unique paddling adventures that feel worlds apart but are only separated by mere miles.

One day will take you on a leisurely canoe trip down the Androscoggin River, one of Maine's premier interior waterways, with its deep history in the logging industry and its current status as a major recreational hub. After receiving instruction in canoe-stroke basics, boating handling and safety, you will follow our expert guides downstream as you take in the beautiful scenery, enjoy a riverside picnic, and try to spot bald eagles, blue herons and other wildlife.

Your day of sea-kayaking starts right beyond your tent site at our Paddling Center, where you will launch into Casco Bay for a tour of its rocky shores and rugged islands. Our Registered Maine Guides will have you well-prepared to head out and explore the coastline, famed for its breathtaking beauty, stopping on one of its many islands for a picnic lunch.

While your days will be filled with unforgettable activities on the water, your night at the campsite will be just as memorable. Gather as a group for a lobster or steak dinner, then relax around the campfire to recount your adventures over s'mores. Everything in true Maine fashion.

All necessary kayaking, canoeing and camping equipment is provided.

NOTE: If you are interested in a customized version of this trip (adjusted lengths, dates, etc.), please call us at 1-888-615-9979. We are happy to discuss custom trip options with you.

  • Additional Trip Details

Below you'll find more information about this trip and what you'll need to know in order to prepare for your adventure.

    Destination/Travel Time
The trip kicks off in Freeport, Maine, at our Paddling Center. For the canoeing day, you will be shuttled to the put-in on the Androscoggin River – a drive of approximately 30-40 minutes. On the kayaking day, you will launch right from the Paddling Center.

    Accommodations
You will be camping at our oceanside Paddling Center. Here we have tents on wooden platforms for you to stay in, with views overlooking the ocean. Each tent has a lantern, headlamps and two cots with freshly cleaned sleeping bags. A short walk from your tent will bring you to our main building where we have sinks, flush toilets and hot showers available for your use at any time.

    Connectivity
While at the Paddling Center, cell phone service is available for most carriers when close to the main building. When on the river or the ocean, coverage is less consistent. Wi-Fi is available in the main building at the Paddling Center.

    Clothing Considerations
Dressing in layers is the key to staying comfortable in the outdoors. Multiple layers allow flexibility to respond to your activity level and changing weather conditions.

Please avoid bringing all-cotton clothing. When wet, cotton rapidly robs the heat from your body and takes a long time to dry.
Synthetic fabrics are best because they don’t absorb water, and they also dry quickly.

For an outer layer, we recommend waterproof/breathable outer shell. This gear will protect you from the wind and rain and help keep you dry.

    Luggage
A medium-sized duffle bag should be appropriate to pack the personal items you will need for the trip, but you are welcome to pack as much as you need to be comfortable. Because the tents are located a short walk from where you park your car, you can leave any items either in your car or in your tent.
  • What to Bring
