Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Recertification Course

Freeport, Maine

L.L.Bean has partnered with Wilderness Medical Associates, a respected leader in wilderness medical education since 1981, to bring you this three-day (24-hour) WFR recertification course open to graduates of all WFR courses 64 hours or longer. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be certified as a Wilderness Medical Associates WFR.

Day one will begin with a review of the course's comprehensive study packet. You'll then work on reviewing patient assessment systems (PAS), including basic life support, circulatory/respiratory/nervous systems and lifts, moves, and extrication drills.

On day two, you will study musculoskeletal injuries, dislocations, spine management, plus wound and burn care. PAS drills will give you the opportunity to test your assessment skills. Then you'll practice splinting extremities and spines in various incident simulations.

Day three will cover allergies, anaphylaxis, environmental injuries, PAS drills and more simulations, preparing you for the course's final exam.

All necessary equipment, including course materials, is provided. Successful completion of the course requires full attendance and satisfactory performance on written and practical quizzes. Itinerary subject to change at instructors' discretion.

Scholarships for this course are available through the Reeno Foundation.

    Smoking and Tobacco Policy

L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery Programs activities are tobacco- and smoke-free (including electronic smoking devices) in support of a healthy lifestyle and respect for our participants and guests. We thank you for understanding and respecting this policy.

    Alcohol Policy

In general, alcohol consumption is not permitted during L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery Programs events for the safety of all participants. However, alcoholic beverages are allowed on overnight trips and may only be consumed in a responsible way after the day’s activities are finished. We hope that we will never have to remove an offending guest from the remainder of a trip to ensure the group’s safety, but we will do so if necessary.
