Embrace the Season: Your Guide to Fall Outdoor Adventures

November 12, 2024

BY MOE B., MANAGER ODP PROGRAMMING

Fall is a magical time of year when nature puts on a spectacular show of colors and the crisp air awakens our senses. When combined, it makes for the perfect opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities with those you love most. Whether you’re a fan of hiking, biking, or simply taking leisurely walks, there’s something for everyone. This time spent outdoors not only provides a great way to stay active but also gives you the opportunity to unplug with family and friends!

These are some of my tips for enjoying a fall season spent outdoors.

A change of season means changing how you prepare to be outdoors.

To fully enjoy your fall adventures, it’s essential to be well-prepared. Here are some tips to ensure you’re ready for anything:

  • Dress in Layers: Fall weather can be unpredictable. Dressing in layers allows you to adjust to changing temperatures throughout the day. Some of my L.L.Bean favorites include our Airlight line of tops and our Cresta Stretch Rain Jacket. Both provide a different level of protection from the elements depending on the weather.

  • Stay Hydrated: Even though it’s cooler, staying hydrated is still important. We have a water bottle for every member of your family or friend group – and they make great gifts too!

  • Pack Essentials: Bring along a small backpack to carry essentials like snacks, a small first-aid kit, or extra layers. My favorite for these outings is our Stowaway Pack.

  • Check the Weather: Always check the weather forecast before heading out to avoid unexpected surprises!

Explore favorite spots, while also looking for new fun places to explore.

Finding the perfect outdoor spot can enhance your fall experience and time with others. Here are some tips to discover beautiful places near you:

  • Local Parks and Nature Reserves: Start by exploring local parks and nature reserves. They often have well-maintained trails and facilities.

  • Online Resources: Use websites and apps like AllTrails, local tourism sites, and asking others in local Facebook groups where popular hiking trails and scenic spots are located. Don’t be afraid to ask family, friends, or our online community of outdoor enthusiasts for recommendations!

  • Visit local State and National Parks: These parks are known for their stunning landscapes and offer a variety of activities depending on your time limitations and abilities.

  • Join Outdoor Groups: Consider joining local hiking or outdoor groups. They often organize group outings and can introduce you to new places.
